Countries in South America are emerging as being in the forefront of UFO research and investigation on an official government level.

At the end of last year, Argentina reported that it has decided to create an official UFO research group called “The Commission for the Research of Aerospatial Phenomena”.

A spokesperson for the Argentinean Air Force (AAF) confirmed on December 29th, 2010, that the decision to create a commission to record and investigate claims of unidentified flying objects in that country’s air space will be created.

The Commission will include a multidisciplinary team of meteorologists, flight controllers, pilots, and radar specialists.

The AAF’s media consultant, Captain Mariano Mohaupt told reporters:

“The Commission for the Research of Aerospatial Phenomena is in the process of being formed… and now things will be perceived from the formal, professional standpoint, contributing toward our mission, which is to control our air space.”

Organizations of this type already exist in other countries of the South America:

Uruguay’s Commission for the Receipt and Investigation of Reports on Unidentified Flying Objects (CRIDOVNI)

Peru’s Office for the Anomalous Aerial Phenomena Investigation (OIFAA)

Chile’s Committee for the Study of Anomalous Aerial Phenomena (CEFAA).

Brazil announced that the Comando da Aeronautica will be responsible for officially recording UFO sightings in their airspace.
