We know where it was found and what it looks like. The bigger question: what is this mysterious creature captured in Delaware waters?
It’s a question many folks have asked after a WBOC-TV viewer submitted a picture of the creature. Jamie Beth Evans of Dagsboro, Del., said her husband captured it this week while clamming near the Indian River Inlet in Sussex County.

In one photo, the creature looks oval shaped. In another, it has tubing or tentacles hanging out.

“The top right here kind of looks like a horseshoe crab but those tentacles, I don’t know what that is,” said one visitor to Bethany Beach who examined the photo. Guesses collected on the boardwalk ranged from turtle to squid, octopus to crab.

Evans said the creature was about the size of a tennis ball but had the shape of a kiwi.

Scientists at the University of Delaware’s College of Earth, Ocean and Environment in Lewes had no solid answers after reviewing the pictures.
