Sasquatch gets around. Although he seems to prefer the Pacific Northwest, he has also been sighted in other parts of North America. According to The Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization, there are photos from 2007 of a young Sasquatch in Pennsylvania’s Allegheny Mountains. This is just a (Bigfoot) hop and a skip from New York’s Adirondacks. And perhaps just a short swim over from Prague…

Prague, after all, is the closest thing that Golems have to a home town. The 16th century chief rabbi of Prague (Judah Loew ben Bezalel a/k/a the Maharal) allegedly created a Golem in order to protect the ghetto Jews from anti-Semitic attacks. Creating a Golem is no easy feat. Golems are made from mud by those with a profound knowledge of Jewish mysticism. When the word emet (meaning “truth” in Hebrew) is inscribed on the Golem’s forehead by such a mystic, the Golem becomes activated. If the Golem becomes a little too enthusiastic, it can be deactivated by removing the aleph (first Hebrew letter of emet). The removal of this essential letter changes the mystical code from truth (emet) to dead (met). This effectively stops the Golem dead in its muddy tracks.

Some say that the Prague Golem fell in love, but was rejected. This could have been reason enough for a defection to Whitehall, New York. If that weren’t enough, the Golem was also in danger of being detained indefinitely within the Prague synagogue’s attic (on an as-needed basis). Although intensely obedient by nature, a Golem can only take just so much before it’s time to let loose.
