FORGET UFOs and the Yowie – the biggest Outback mystery is the Territory Tiger.

The grainy still below was taken from footage filmed in the 1990s by Territorian Jan Donovan.

Author Rebecca Lang said the large, sandy cat appeared to be of “considerable size”, and could be the descendant of escaped circus cats.

Ms Lang and co-author Mike Williams have spent the past five years compiling reports of sighting and collecting photos and video of large cats that resemble leopards and pumas for their book Australian Big Cats: An Unnatural History of Panthers.

The earliest account was from 1883 by SA explorer Charles Winnecke. The journal of his exploration on the WA-NT border says Winnecke came across a “wild cat of an extraordinary size”.

“The brute was nearly as large as a leopard,” he wrote.

Ms Lang said these cats had a lifespan of 20 years – but the sightings have continued for 150 years.

“We know the earliest circus menageries started up around 1850, so it’s conceivable that the odd circus cat could have ended up in the bush,” she said.

“Transport arrangements were notoriously dodgy back then and escapes happened all the time.”

On July 26, 1971, Apollo 15, the ninth manned mission of the Apollo program, was launched into space.

NASA called Apollo 15 the most successful manned flight ever achieved.

Apollo 15 was the fourth lunar landing mission. The flight to the moon was led by Commander David Scott. Alfred Worden was the Command Module Pilot. The Lunar Module was piloted by Jim Irwin.

The crew received intense geology training prior to the launch, making it the first Apollo flight to rank geology the highest priority of the mission. The field training took place in Arizona and New Mexico.

Like other space flights before and after this one, UFO enthusiasts believe that the crew of Apollo 15 was witness to UFOs in space during this mission that ended on August 7, 1971.

An unidentified flying object (UFO) was reported sighted at a beach resort in Tuaran recently.

The round blue object, which was said to be hovering in the sky near the Tuaran Beach Resort, was sighted by resort guests and employees.

Tuaran Beach Resort restaurant manager, James Dungil, 27, who were among the eyewitnesses said the object was sighted on Saturday around 4pm.

“I was in the restaurant with some friends and saw some guests pointing up to the sky.

“We were curious so we went out to see what the commotion was all about and I saw a round transparent object in the sky,” he said when contacted yesterday.

James said he and some others then ran up to the resort’s family living room, located on the second floor, to have a better view.

“I managed to take one photo before it disappeared out of sight,” he said, adding that there was no sound or shining light when the object vanished.

Several other guests and employees, who claimed to have also spotted the object, said it hovered in the air for a few minutes before disappearing.

Some even claimed that their handphones “went dead” when they tried to record the object with the devices.

You may think the photo was taken in a remote location in Transylvania. Well, it was not. Actually, the story emerges from the city of Braila in southeast Romania and may be related to the legend of the Ghost House on Ana Aslan Street.

Manuela Chirosca, a local security worker was guarding an old building, no. 29 on Ana Aslan Street, constructed in late 19th century. She was doing routine checks of the house two days ago (July 19). “It was about 7 AM when I was doing the morning tour of the house. I had a strong feeling that I am not alone,” she told Jurnalul National.

“I was going for the window of a room which was probably a bedroom or something like that. I approached the window and then I saw a tall feminine shape that seemed wreathed in a white veil. My first reaction was to get back and run away as fast as I can!”

It is exactly what she did. Wouldn’t you? But then she took a deep breath, calmed down and went back in the room. “Fear made me feel sick, but then I thought there’s nothing that could possibly happen to me and I could not miss the chance to take pictures,” Chirsoca told the Romanian newspaper. She took up her mobile phone and photographed the blurry shape. “I had to take several pictures because the shape was moving from one place to another.”

The security worker is a yoga practitioner for over 14 years and is literate in parapsychology and spiritism. She had previous paranormal experiences, “but never with such intensity” she said.
