Just as I was beginning to lose hope that we would get a good unidentified ‘monster’ story this summer, along comes this one!

When Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) officials received a picture of the roadkill from Alexandria, Minn., this week, it wasn’t clear what it was.

Lacey Ilse said she was driving near her home on County Road 86, south of Alexandria, when she spotted the mysterious mammal.

“We saw something in the middle of the road, and we knew it wasn’t a dog or a cat, because it didn’t have hair. It had a clump of hair and all the rest was just white skin,” Ilse said.”it’s ear was all mis-shaped. To me, it looked like half-human.”

Ilse said she soon posted pictures of the animal on Facebook, and rumors and speculation took off.

“It just shot out like wildfire. everybody was putting it on their Facebook pages. And then, their friends were putting it on their pages,” she said.

The mystery animal was ghostly white and hairless, its neck bloated out of proportion with the rest of its limp body.

There were five front toes with long nails, so it most likely wasn’t a dog. Several employees, working off the picture, concluded it was a badger.

“If you look at the picture, it is weird-looking,” said Jason Abraham, a fur-bearer specialist with the DNR. “If there were four or five of these found on the road, we might have a bit more interest.”

“The head suggests a canine, very likely a domestic dog,” Abraham said. “However, the right front foot appears to have five toes, which is not typical for canines. Also, the long toenails are not typical for an active canine.”

The badger, assuming that’s what it was, probably lost its hair during the decomposition process, Abraham said. The animal most likely lived in Minnesota, although the species is more commonly found in Wisconsin.

Folks in Alexandria Wednesday had their own ideas.

“First guess was a badger with like, a case of mange. But then, some other people were saying, like a chupacabra. and after looking at some pictures, I was like, ‘you know, it’s possible,” Jones said.

“It kinda looks like a 10-year-old wolf,” Austin Becker of Alexandria said.

“Almost looks like a pig, with paws? I don’t know, or a wolf,” Kaitlin Van Horn of Morris said.

In 2006, residents of the North Shore were perplexed by a hairless animal roaming the woods. It turned out to be a timberwolf with mange.

What the hell is this thing? I love seeing stories like this because inevitably it turns out that these weird creatures are nothing more than a local animal. But until someone confirms this, it always gives me a creepy feeling that the world is not always easily explainable…

Chiquimitío, a town of approximately 1,500 residents, is a small community some two thousand twenty meters above sea level, quite close to the city of Morelia. And that’s where some local residents encountered a strange creature, small and walking on all fours before standing on two legs.

They described the creature as having thin arms, legs and torso, covered with very little hair. Unfortunately, the few witnesses to this event were gripped by fear, and threw themselves against the unknown entity, lopping off its head with a single blow and throwing its small carcass to the local dogs, which devoured it almost immediately.

It should also be noted that Chiquimitío is a farming community, and it is customary for residents to carry machetes wherever they go.

. . . . . .

It has been said for a long time that in communities near Chiquimitío and several locations in the state of Michoacán, there have been sightings of strange beings resembling the legendary elves, trolls and even cyclops and giants, all of this forming part of the area’s legends.

No final conclusion is possible for this case, based on all the foregoing. However, considering the evidence and all that has been investigated, we can say that on 19 March 2010 in Chiquimitío, Michoacán, Mexico, something was seen. A genetically deformed animal, an imp, a troll, a cyclops? You have the last word. Thank you very much.

In recent years a debate has been brewing amongst the Bigfoot research community. In recent months, this debate has heated up as each group offers evidence of their claims.

There are currently two main groups in the debate.

The first group states that Bigfoot is a cryptozoological hominid creature. This creature is either of the ape family, or possibly a branch off the early human tree. We will call these creature ‘traditional’ Bigfoot.

The second group claims that Bigfoot is probably an inter-dimensional creature which may have extraterrestrial origin. Oftentimes, they claim, Bigfoot has been seen in areas rife with UFO activity. In many reports of Bigfoot sightings also include sightings of UFO’s in the same area.

They go on to say that there is ample eye-witness evidence where a Bigfoot is seen, only to vanish before their eyes, as if they have slipped into another dimension. We shall call these creatures ‘inter-dimensional’ Bigfoot.

There is now a third group which has entered the debate.

This third group theorize that ‘traditional’ Bigfoot and ‘inter-dimensional’ Bigfoot are in fact two different creatures.

When looking at nature, the vast majority of hominid creatures are covered in hair. This seems to be the norm amongst most higher order animals, with the exceptions of humans, dolphins and other sea creatures. Could this norm be extrapolated into other life-forms throughout the universe?

Assuming that hairy creatures are pretty common life-forms, this leads one to the conclusion that it is possible that there are a race of aliens which are covered by hair (a la Wookies or Ewoks of Star Wars fame).
If this is the case, then it is entirely possible that witnesses of UFO encounters could have seen a hairy alien.

The group goes onto hypothesize that ‘traditional’ Bigfoot sightings are probably a form of man or ape which has developed here on earth. These ‘traditional’ Bigfoots are not inter-dimensional or of alien origin. The confusion arises due to the similarity of appearance between the ‘traditional’ Bigfoot and the ‘inter-dimensional’ Bigfoot.

It is unlikely that we will discover which group is correct until a Bigfoot corpse is found, or complete UFO disclosure takes place. Until then, this is just one of many debates which rage amongst those with an interest in the unexplained.

Reports of winged beings have long been included in the more obscure reports of cryptozoological and ufological weirdness from around the world. Arguably, the most famous of all such incidents was detailed throughout John Keel’s investigations of the “Mothman,” which occurred in West Virginia in the late 1960s. Since that time, Mothman has become the predominant image in most people’s minds when it comes to envisioning a winged monstrosity of the cryptozoological variety. There are, however, other instances involving claims where such creatures have been witnessed, and though details about their existence are far more obscure, they bear a variety of similarities to folkloric traditions from various cultures around the world. Strangely, among these similarities are parallels having to do with the alleged creature’s interaction with their habitat and surroundings, as well as a prevalence of sexual aspects to their dealings with humans.

One recent discussion addressing unidentified winged monsters detailed encounters with an alleged “gargoyle” seen near the vicinity of the El Yunque National Forest in Puerto Rico. This was presented by the astute Scott Corrales at Inexplicata, where he shared some unique accounts that included a physical attack sustained by an area local. According to Corrales, “some people have identified (the monster) with the Chupacabras, yet others believe it is a differnt, elusive and sinister entity whose lair is in Barrio Ensenada, amid the ruins and tunnels of the Guanica Sugar Mill, where the skeletons of its victims can be found.”

Arguably, the manner in which this story is presented here has a folkloric overtone, with it’s tales of an old abandoned building in which the creature now resides. One might assume that if the creature’s victims were really piled up beneath an old sugar mill, a criminal investigation would have ensued to uncover the remains and find the culprit. However, before substantiating the claims with physical evidence Corrales presents that, as stated earlier, does involve an attack one man claims he received from the creature, it would be interesting to ponder those folkloric elements for a moment. After all, when comparing this story to the circumstances presented in reports of the alleged Mothman creature, we begin to see some striking similarities.
