There may finally be proof that a big cat may be on the loose and killing deer in Gloucestershire, experts have warned.

Last week, dog walkers discovered the mutilated carcass of a roe deer on National Trust land near Stroud in England.

The experts believe that the injuries to the neck of the deer and the way the carcass had been consumed are believed to be highly indicative of big cat activity.

Experts have taken DNA samples from the remains of the deer to see whether a big cat, such as a puma or panther, could have killed it.

Local big cat expert Rick Minter, who has visited the site of the discovery at Woodchester Park, said: “It is very helpful to have this forensic study of the deer carcass.

“The consistent feedback I receive from people about possible big cats is that the animals should be studied, so we can learn about the subject.

“Studying likely evidence such as this will help us become more informed.

Mr Minter added: “Although people occasionally report a possible big cat from a distance, close up encounters with such cats are rare.

“Their hearing and movement are exceptional, which helps them avoid close contact with people.”

“In the event of a close-up encounter, you should stay calm and face towards the animal as you back off, but not threaten or aggravate it.

“The chances are it will have backed off very quickly first.”

David Armstrong, the National Trust’s head ranger for Gloucestershire, said: “There are some very occasional sightings of big cats in the Cotswolds, but they have wide territories, so are rarely present in one particular spot for long.

“We’d be interested to hear of any more sightings at Woodchester.”

Dr Robin Allaby, Associate Professor at the school of life sciences at the University of Warwick, visited to take DNA samples.

These are now being tested with the results due by the end of the month.

For centuries, there have been thousands of reported sightings of large felines on moorland and in woods and fields across the UK.

The animals – normally black or brown – are believed have been spotted in almost every county in Britain.

Police have issued a warning to the public after reports of big cats in Easter Ross and Sutherland.

A “large panther-type” cat was spotted walking near Dornoch’s caravan park and golf course on Saturday morning.

Another member of the public spotted what they described as a “very large, muscular black cat with a square head” in the Fendon area of Tain last week.

Northern Constabulary has asked for any further sightings but also urged people not to approach the animals.

The Tain cat was seen last Thursday.

FORGET UFOs and the Yowie – the biggest Outback mystery is the Territory Tiger.

The grainy still below was taken from footage filmed in the 1990s by Territorian Jan Donovan.

Author Rebecca Lang said the large, sandy cat appeared to be of “considerable size”, and could be the descendant of escaped circus cats.

Ms Lang and co-author Mike Williams have spent the past five years compiling reports of sighting and collecting photos and video of large cats that resemble leopards and pumas for their book Australian Big Cats: An Unnatural History of Panthers.

The earliest account was from 1883 by SA explorer Charles Winnecke. The journal of his exploration on the WA-NT border says Winnecke came across a “wild cat of an extraordinary size”.

“The brute was nearly as large as a leopard,” he wrote.

Ms Lang said these cats had a lifespan of 20 years – but the sightings have continued for 150 years.

“We know the earliest circus menageries started up around 1850, so it’s conceivable that the odd circus cat could have ended up in the bush,” she said.

“Transport arrangements were notoriously dodgy back then and escapes happened all the time.”

A large and mysterious creature is ripping apart cattle in a small village of Ecuador. Although the original article is in Spanish, Google translation tries its best to translate it to English, but fails. So I will paraphrase.

The small community of “La Cuadra” (The block) has seen multiple cattle mutilated and torn apart by something powerful. The ghastly findings are out of the ordinary, even for local known predators. The residents concluded that what ever it is that has killed steer and cows, it’s powerful enough to rip them apart and leave huge, deep prints with large claws in the mud. cuadra-gente

Arming themselves with machetes, guns and flashlights a search party was rounded up in order to capture the creature. Upon investigation the residents saw a ‘large black animal move through brushes”. Nearby they found some cattle remains. What are the residents of La Cuadra dealing with?

Talks from the residents point to a possible escaped cougar. Others say that this is just another attack by the infamous Chupacabra.

No photographs of the paw prints have been released, although photographs of the mutilated cattle speak for the shocking attacks. What is stalking the cattle in Ecuador? In order to inflict that kind of damage seen in the photographs, I would have to say that a large cat is on the lose, or a pack of canids are attacking the cattle.
