New Zealand’s military has released hundreds of documents, dating from 1954 to 2009, which include drawings of flying saucers and alleged samples of alien writing.

The released documents also include details of New Zealand’s most famous UFO sighting when strange lights were filmed off the South Island town of Kaikoura in 1978.

New Zealand Air Force spokesman Kavae Tamariki said the military did not have the resources to investigate UFO sightings and would not be commenting on the documents’ contents.

“We have just been a collection point for the information. We don’t investigate or make reports, we haven’t substantiated anything in them,” he told the Dominion Post newspaper.

All the original documents on which the reports were based are to remain sealed in the national archive.

Scientists say that our sun may be the best communications device if we could harness its power.

The premise is that the sun’s gravity has such a massive gravity that it warps space-time around it. So it actually bends light passing it, almost like a giant lens.

They surmise that if we placed a detector at the focal point to collect the light, the result will be a massively magnified image. This technique could also be used in spectrums other than visible light.

It would be the largest optical telescope ever conceived.

The one thing stopping us from doing this is the great distances involved. The focal point is around 550 astronomical units (1 A.U. is the distance between the sun and Earth).

This ‘telesope’ could be used to view distant objects, communicate with interstellar probes, and even contact aliens.

“This is key to exploring the neighborhood of our galaxy in the centuries to come,” Claudio Maccone, technical director of the Paris-based International Academy of Astronautics told reporters.

The research was detailed in a recent issue of the journal Acta Astronautica.

This one comes courtesy of my friends at Weird Asia News:

No one seems to know the origin or the meaning behind a mysterious pyramid that sits atop Mount Baigong in western China that local legends claim is an alien UFO launch tower.

Nine scientists form the team that will travel to the western province of Qinghai and the mouth of this 165-198 foot tall structure known as the “ET Relics.”

“The pyramid has three caves with openings shaped like triangles on its façade and is filled with red-hued pipes leading into the mountain and a nearby salt water lake,” says China’s state-run Xinhua agency.
