As the year draws to a close, we are inevitably drawn to predictions of the year ahead, but seldom do we look at the predictions of things that should have taken place over the previous year.

Livescience’s Benjamin Radford has drawn up a list of predictions that did not come true for 2008. Here they are:

1) Locust Swarms Destroy Wheat Crops

2) Top U.S. General in Iraq Killed; Troops Return

3) Supervolcano Spews Ash Across Globe

4) Beloved Entertainer Dies in Stunt Tomfoolery

5) Global Famine Kills Millions

The only one which in most ominous and could possibly happen is number 3.

Over the last few weeks, there have been odd earthquakes and rumblings at Yellowstone National Park. For those who don’t know, Yellowstone sits on top of an active caldera which last erupted about 640 000 years ago. Experts reckon that if it blows, it will be a super-volcano!

What do you think it could be? Is it fake, could it be real or is there a more scientific answer?

Another impressive example of pareidolia, found by Jeremy Olden at his home at Lake Stevens, Seattle.

The icicle made the news around the world with people saying that it looks like Old Man Winter, or even the face of Jesus.

Jack Frost is believed to have originated from elf-like creature from Viking mythology, and was known as Jokul Frosti, which means ‘icicle frost’.

Legend has it that it is Jack Frost who changes the colour of autumn leaves on trees. But it is in winter that his talent really shines and the intricate engraving of frost and ice on windows is his real masterwork.

Some time later this mythology became a part of British folklore and Jack Frost has come to personify crisp, cold, winter weather.

Over in Russia, frost and snow is caused by an old man by the name of Father Frost. He is a blacksmith who could weld together earth and water. Perhaps his wife can be found in Germany where Mother Frost is said to be responsible for snow when she shaked out the white feathers from her bed!

For years embalmer Glenn Dennis has told an intriguing Roswell crash tale. If true, it leaves no doubt that what fell to Earth in July of 1947 in New Mexico sands was from another world. However Glenn’s story has been disputed by researchers as having serious difficulties. Today, some have all but dismissed his purported involvement in the crash events.

But new interviews and information show that the undertaker’s amazing story may well have basis in fact. And a fresh look may have uncovered the possible identity of the “missing nurse” at the Roswell base who decades ago revealed to Glenn the alien reality of the crash.
